We provide couples therapy in Valencia. Our team of psychologists specialises in resolving relationship crises and conflicts. We help you improve your relationship.
Couples therapy is a therapeutic approach that helps both partners resolve the emotional and relational conflicts that prevent them from enjoying a satisfying relationship, taking into account their current situation and the context around them. The couples therapy we offer at our centre in Valencia is suitable both for couples with relatively few problems who want to make their relationship better, and for couples in serious conflict or on the point of separating or divorcing.
It is always possible to analyse a couple, especially their relationship and the circumstances around it, and to reach concrete conclusions about the causes of its deterioration and, more importantly, about the possible paths to recovery, provided that recovery is not only possible but also wanted by the people involved. It is a matter of getting down to the facts and the concrete reality of the couple's problems, so as not only to see them clearly but to overcome them.
Based on our experience at the Centre in Valencia, here are some situations that are common in couples therapy and that may sound familiar:
- Only one partner wants to come to therapy. We have found it is very common for only one partner to come to the first session and, in our experience, in most cases it is the woman. The partner who comes usually says the other does not want to come, or that they have not told them for fear of a negative reaction. In these cases we suggest different strategies to bring the other partner into therapy. If, despite these attempts, it is not possible, therapy can be carried out through one partner alone. The partner who comes alone will have to work harder, on more difficult ground, but clinical experience shows that results are achieved. Moreover, since psychological work increases the confidence and autonomy of the partner in therapy, this often leads to the other partner joining soon afterwards.
- Lack of motivation in one or both partners. Among the couples who come to our clinic in Valencia it is also common for one or both partners to doubt that the work will produce results. In these cases we design strategies to motivate them to continue, involving them in changing the present and the future.
In any event, it is worth stressing that a couple is, above all, a relationship, an interaction, an exchange, giving and receiving, and it is in that dynamic that the causes of both harmony and crisis must essentially be sought.
