Our method

The 6-Session Method

Brief therapy that is warm and rigorous. From day one you know what we are going to do, where we are heading and when we expect to finish. And you choose the path you need right now: Care or Roots.

Two paths, one method

Choose your programme

Both have 6 sessions and the same structure. What changes is the focus of the work.

  • To feel better now

    Care programme

Anxiety, stress, feeling overwhelmed or going through a hard time that stops you living normally. We work on the present: relief, tools and balance.

    6 sessions
  • To understand where it comes from

    Roots programme

Recurring patterns, self-esteem, relationships, personal history. We go deep to understand where it comes from, so that change lasts.

    6 sessions

Not sure which one fits you? We will work it out in the first session. They can be combined: first Care, to get your balance back, then Roots, to get to the bottom of things.

  1. Session 1

    Map and first tools

We assess and, in the same session, I give you a clear, honest first reading of what is happening, what keeps it going and what we can do. This often eases a lot of guilt and uncertainty. You leave with your first tools from day one.

  2. Session 2

    Goals and plan

We review your week and turn what worries you into concrete, measurable goals. That way we know where we are heading and how we will check that you are making progress.

  3. Sessions 3 and 4

    The core work

The heart of the therapy. In Care we train emotional regulation and resources for everyday life. In Roots we go to the source: the patterns, beliefs and personal history that sustain what you are going through.

  4. Session 5

    Consolidation

We look at how far you have come since your starting point. We strengthen what works, adjust what resists and build your autonomy.

  5. Session 6

    Closing session

We organise the tools that worked best for you into your personal manual, prepare relapse prevention and close once you have the judgement and the resources to carry on by yourself.

  6. Follow-up

    One month after we finish

One session to consolidate what you have achieved, see how you are using your manual and adjust whatever is needed.

Why 6 sessions

In my experience, six sessions is the time it takes to do serious work: understand, change and consolidate. With a clear beginning and end, every session counts.

It is an honest guide, not a fixed package. If you reach your goals sooner, we finish sooner. If your case needs more, I will tell you clearly and we will continue with a concrete plan. I never drag therapy out without a reason.

What therapy with me is like

Warm, cheerful and full of energy. I want you to feel at ease from the very first minute, because that is how good work gets done. At the same time I work with real rigour and a sense of urgency to help you feel better soon: I know how hard it is to live with distress.

My commitment is that every session gives you something concrete, so that you never feel your therapy was expensive. I tell you honestly what is happening, what can be done and how long it may take.

I have built the method over 20 years in practice, combining the best of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, mindfulness, humanistic psychology and the psychodynamic approach: deep, but highly practical. In family therapy we add the systemic approach.

Between sessions

People who work on their process between sessions make more and better progress: psychotherapy research shows this consistently. That is why at every session you take away readings, audio, videos or exercises. They are not homework: they are the tools you use to build your autonomy. The next session always starts by reviewing what you have discovered.

Frequently asked questions

What if I need more or fewer than 6 sessions?

The 6 sessions are an honest guide, not a fixed package. If you reach your goals sooner, we finish sooner. If your case needs more, we assess it in session 5 and continue with a clear plan. Therapy is never dragged out without a reason.

What is the difference between Care and Roots?

Care focuses on the present: easing distress and giving you tools to get your balance back as soon as possible. Roots goes to the source: understanding where recurring patterns come from so that change lasts. If you are not sure, we decide together in the first session.

Who is the method for?

For individual therapy with adults and adolescents, and for couples therapy. In family therapy we add the systemic approach. If you are asking on behalf of a child, in the first session we assess what kind of support they need, always together with the family. If your situation needs a different format or coordination with psychiatry, we will tell you clearly.

How long is each session and how often do we meet?

Sessions last 50 to 60 minutes and take place weekly, which is the pace at which brief therapy progresses best. Between sessions you work with the tools you take away.

Can it be done online?

Yes. The method works just as well by video call, in English, Spanish or French, with the same sessions and the same material between sessions.

How much does it cost?

Each session costs the same as a standard therapy session at the Centre (individual, couples or family), in person or online, and you only pay for the sessions you actually have. You will find it on the fees page.

Do you reply outside opening hours?

We also reply to messages at weekends. This is not an emergency service: if your life or someone else’s is in danger, call 112, and if you are having suicidal thoughts, call 024.
